Zhang Annina (15S48) & Pearlyn Low Ling Hui (15A12)
Service-Leadership – that is the philosophy of Annina and Pearlyn. Both were outstanding leaders in their own right, inspiring the people around them and leading by example at all times.
As President of the Students’ Council, Annina showed an indefatigable spirit and extraordinary management skills. She led with conviction and inspired her peers to follow her lead. Her leadership was particularly evident during Orientation 2016, where she planned and oversaw the entire event. As a leader, she enabled her peers, providing them meaningful opportunities to hone their own leadership abilities. She was undaunted by challenges, and solved problems with a steady calm that reassured others. In recognition of her exemplary leadership and her outstanding effort in community service, Annina was awarded the prestigious Goh Chok Tong NextGen Outstanding Student Leader Award in 2016, an award initiated by the South East Community Development Council.
Pearlyn was just as remarkable as the Secretary of the Students’ Council. She had tremendous presence and was able to command the attention of others effortlessly. She kept a cool head on her shoulders and was always on top of the situation. These traits stood her in good stead when she was part of the planning committee for Connecting Leaders in Camp in 2016. She and her team did an excellent job in planning meaningful activities to inculcate key leadership values in the participants. It is no surprise that she received the Edusave Character Award and, most recently, the National Young Leader Award awarded by Halogen Foundation.
Annina and Pearlyn are fine examples of the best VJC has to offer. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
