Phoon Yi Hao (15S32) & Benjamin Choong Chen Ming (15S43)

As leaders in their respective fields, Phoon Yi Hao and Benjamin Choong Chen Ming were prominent personalities in the College.

Yi Hao was the Chairperson of the College’s Symphonic Band and he dedicated much time raising the profile of the Band, formulating a flashmob during assembly which generated fanfare for the Band’s concert at the Esplanade. Besides that, Yi Hao also performed at numerous events including the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2015, and A Victorian Music Evening @ Botanic Gardens and VJC Open House in 2016.

Benjamin was the Vice-Chairperson of Studio V, and  planned and directed numerous video projects for the College. In 2015, he represented the College in the Envisioning Our Future Film Competition where his team was second runner-up. In 2016, he directed and produced the College’s entry for the Economic Development Board’s Economics Film Competition, clinching two of the five finalist awards.

Both Yi Hao and Benjamin were facilitators at the 2016 Connecting Leaders in Camp, playing a big role in nurturing the next batch of student leaders in VJC. Despite their active involvement outside the classroom, both excelled academically. Yi Hao’s keen interest in Biology motivated him to represent the College for the Singapore Biology Olympiad in 2015, and he was later awarded the Victoria Junior College Scholarship in 2016. Benjamin was similarly drawn to the Sciences and pursued The Essentials of Modern Physics at Higher Three Level.

We congratulate them for their excellent achievements and hope they will be trailblazers in society and keep the Victorian flag unfurled.
