Timothy Yee Bing Lun (15S34) & Soh Je Yeong (15S43)
Timothy and Je Yeong are both young men with a passion for science and service. During their time in VJC, they were able to further their deep interest in scientific research while contributing to the community in very tangible ways.
As a recipient of the A*STAR (Agency for Science Technology and Research) Award, Timothy took on a year-long school-based research project where he did extensive research into the application of game-theory concepts to real-life situations, such as decision-making in the stock market. This culminated in a presentation at the Science Symposium in VJC where he impressed the judges with his knowledge. At the same time, he was an active volunteer with TOUCH Young Arrows, where he mentored underprivileged primary school students on a weekly basis. Timothy is a worthy recipient of several scholarships: the DSTA JC Scholarship, the MOE Pre-University Scholarship and the VJC Scholarship.
Je Yeong was similarly engaged in the community and involved with science research. He participated in the H3 NUS-A*STAR-VJC Science Research Programme where he conducted a research project under Dr Khoo Eng Huat of the Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) for six months. This project explored chiral molecules using computational methods. Je Yeong eventually exhibited his project at the Singapore Science and Engineering Fair 2016 where he attained the Bronze award. In recognition of his efforts, Je Yeong was awarded the prestigious A*STAR Science Award (JC). At the same time, he was selected to be part of the Grassroots and Governance programme, which included volunteering at Meet-the-People sessions at Tampines East Community Centre. For his contributions and achievements, he was awarded the Singapore Police Force Book Prize, the MOE Pre-University Scholarship and the VJC Scholarship.
Congratulations, Timothy and Je Yeong! We are very proud of you!
