VJC has been offering the Humanities Programme for more than twenty years. The MOE Humanities Scholarship, granted to students in the programme, is valued at $1,000 per annum. Students have to offer English Literature, two other Arts subjects (China Studies, Economics, Geography, History, Theatre Studies and Drama) and a contrasting subject. The scholars are also expected to eventually pursue a H3 in one of the Arts subjects.

VJC’s Humanities scholars have been key contributors to our tradition of academic excellence as well as our vibrant college life. Many have done very well and been awarded prestigious scholarships such as the President’s Scholarship, Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship, NUS Global Merit Scholarship as well as scholarships from the Jardine Foundation and the Loke Cheng Kim Foundation.

Eligibility

Candidates should:

  • Be Singapore Citizens;
  • Have done consistently well in school, obtaining outstanding results in the GCE O-Level Examinations / equivalent results based on IP school’s internal assessment;
  • Have a good record of co-curricular activities;
  • Not currently be in receipt of any other MOE scholarship

Terms and Conditions

The scholarship is valued at $1,000 per annum and covers school fees based on Singapore Citizens’ rates. It is tenable for 2 years, subject to satisfactory progress at the end of JC1.

Besides offering the General Paper (students offering Knowledge & Inquiry need not offer General Paper), a Mother Tongue Language  (students offering Mother Tongue Language And Literature need not offer Mother Tongue Language) and Project Work at H1 level, Humanities scholars must offer H2 Literature in English and a second H2 Humanities subject chosen from China Studies, Economics, Geography and History. The choice of the third H2 subject may include Art, China Studies, Economics, Foreign Languages, Geography, History, Mother Tongue Language & Literature or Theatre Studies & Drama (see Table 1). In addition to three H2 subjects, Humanities Scholars have to offer a contrasting subject which may be Knowledge & Inquiry (KI) or from the Maths /Science group*.
